I've gotta give kudos to Smirnoff's marketing team for doing 3.1M page view (PV's) with their viral video.

For a comparison, ParkRidge47's "Vote Different" mashup of the 1984 Mac commercial promoting Barack Obama also has 3.4M PV's.

Quoted from Andrea's Shoe Closet:

Tea Partay

Make sure to watch this Video!!!! It's a Commercial for Smirnoff Raw Iced Tea.....and it's one of the funnies things i've seen in a long time!!!

Armed with massive e-mail lists and high-speed networks, these activists are bypassing the familiar campaign tactics of door-knocking and phone-banking. They are also using their new-age technologies for an old-fashioned purpose: making politicians take note of their legislative priorities.

One of those is "net neutrality." Hardly a household term, it has no overtly partisan or ideological dimensions. Yet it is shaping up as a Democratic issue this year, largely because its most fervid advocates are liberal bloggers and other Internet activists who play a big role in the early stages of choosing a Democratic presidential nominee.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-02-21T17:54:28Z</dcterms:modified>

Talking about Super bowl spend

Marty Collins has a great blog entry about how marketers are leveraging super bowl ad spend through viral campaigns:

Quoted from Super bowl spend

It looks like marketers are getting smarter about leveraging the ridiculous amount of money they spend on super bowl ads. The New York Times reports a 30 second spot is going for a record $2.6 million this year. Advertisers are getting smarter this year and drawing consumers into the ads by providing contests to create the best ad, text messaging options to vote for your favorite ad, and rating the ads on corporate websites. Sound familiar? These are all techniques that drove Time magazine to name the User person of the year for 2006. Corporations are now putting the ads on their website and getting all the exposure they can out of them. TV is only one channel for media anymore and marketers are getting smarter about increasing their exposure through a more diverse marketing mix. Where a super bowl ad a few years ago played once for 30 seconds companies are now using that ad to generate momentum and a call to action to continue the campaign online. By expanding the reach of the ad a company is able to increase the ROI by factoring in press mentions, traffic to their site and word of mouth beyond Sunday afternoon. Smart. So whether you are spending $2.6 million on 30 seconds (and most of us aren't!) or running a campaign at a much lower price point the challenge is to find out all the ways you can leverage your investment. And thankful the online world is making that much easier.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-01-29T21:24:04Z</dcterms:modified>

Going to MSM when big news breaks

According to the folks at Lexis Nexis, people skip the blogosphere for big news and instead go to the mainstream media. I'm guessing that this may be due to the ability of folks who get paid to cover major news faster than bloggers; and the known quality of the reporting from the full-time media.

If people are choosing the MSM over the blogosphere for big news, then what is the role of the blogosphere? Probably the deep, investigative reporting that the MSM may not have the time to invest in and the collaborative filtering that comes from the commenting, linking, and track-back system.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-10-03T06:33:19Z</dcterms:modified>

Buzz Monitoring Tool

It has become an almost daily ritual for me to check Technorati, Google News, and Live QnA for news of Windows Live Spaces and other topics that I care about. I decided to build a web page that made all of my favorite buzz-tracking sources available in a single place. You can try this for yourself at http://www.wuxx.com/test/buzz.

I wrote the code so that it can take a query / keyword parameter ("q") in the URL like:

http://www.wuxx.com/test/buzz/?q=cheese (That's for you Rick G.)

http://www.wuxx.com/test/buzz/?q=windows+live+spaces

http://www.wuxx.com/test/buzz/?q=darcy+burner
If you have any feedback on the tool, I would love to hear it (please leave a comment); especially:

Are there other sources for tracking buzz that I'm missing?

Did you find any broken links?

Would you suggest any features?

Update 2006-10-08: Added buzz tags: Email AIM del.icio.us Digg Furl Slashdot

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-10-08T16:23:50Z</dcterms:modified>
